Pilot Performance Ratings

Your performance rating is a 0–10 score that summarizes how you fly across five real-world airline KPIs. Unlike Points (which counts what you do), your rating measures how well you do it. Together they give you a complete picture of your flying.

The 5 Categories

IconCategoryWhat it measures
⏱️On-Time Performance (OTP)How close your departure and arrival times are to your target pushback and SimBrief schedule
⛽Eco FlightHow efficiently you fly compared to the SimBrief fuel plan
✋Manual FlightHow much of your time in the air you fly by hand (autopilot off)
🛬Passenger ComfortHow smooth your flying is — landing rate, G-forces, cruise stability
⚠️Safety RecordWarnings and violations you've accumulated, with older events fading over time

Each category gets a score from 0 to 10. Your overall composite is a weighted average that your virtual airline configures.

Tiers and Badges

Each category (and your overall score) earns a tier badge:

  • 🥇 Gold — score 9.0 or higher
  • 🥈 Silver — 7.0 to 8.9
  • 🥉 Bronze — 5.0 to 6.9
  • No badge — below 5.0

Your virtual airline can customize these thresholds, so check with your operator if the cutoffs feel different.

How to Improve Each Category

⏱️ OTP

Set your Target Pushback Time on the briefing page before launching ACARS. Anything within ±5 minutes of your target counts as on-time and scores a perfect 10/10 — that's your grace window. Past ±5 minutes the score curve kicks in and falls off quickly: 6 minutes off ≈ 9.8, 10 minutes off ≈ 6.8, 13 minutes off ≈ 3.7.

Common causes of low OTP:

  • Not being ready to push when ACARS connects
  • Underestimating taxi time
  • Setting an unrealistic target pushback

⛽ Eco Flight

Your enroute fuel burn — what you burned between takeoff and landing — is compared to SimBrief's enroute planned fuel. Taxi fuel is excluded from both sides, so taxi-out wait or taxi-in delays don't affect your Eco score. Burning exactly the planned amount gives you 10/10. Each 1% over plan reduces your score by 1.

Important: if your SimBrief cost index doesn't match your aircraft profile's CI, your Eco score for that flight is automatically halved. Check your CI before generating each OFP.

Tips:

  • Follow SimBrief's planned cruise altitude
  • Reduce climb thrust by 3-5% if you're consistently overburning
  • Don't change your CI to inflate planned fuel — the system catches this

✋ Manual Flight

The system counts seconds where the autopilot master switch is OFF and you're not on the ground. 50% hand-flying through your flight gives you a perfect 10/10.

Tips:

  • Try hand-flying the SID or STAR for an easy boost
  • Disconnect the autopilot for the final approach and landing
  • Practice raw-data approaches occasionally

🛬 Passenger Comfort

A weighted blend of your landing rate, landing G-force, max bank angle in cruise, and overall G-force excursion. Aim for around -150 fpm at touchdown for the best score.

Bank angle is measured as the steepest bank you hold while airborne. Up to 35° scores a perfect 10/10 on that component. Past 35° the score falls in a straight line and reaches 0/10 at 45°, so a 40° bank scores 5/10. Bank is 15% of your comfort score, so even a 45° bank costs at most 1.5 points on a flight.

Tips:

  • Flare at ~20 ft AGL for a smoother touchdown
  • Keep cruise bank angles at or under 35°
  • Avoid abrupt control inputs

⚠️ Safety Record

The system counts warnings and violations from your flights, but older events fade away. An event from 30 days ago counts roughly 12% of an event from today. Stay clean and your record naturally improves.

Tips:

  • Follow your airline's stable approach criteria
  • Don't exceed Vmo / Mmo
  • Don't land overweight

Your Statistics Window

Your rating is computed over the last 30 days of flights by default. Your virtual airline can change this — some airlines use the "last N flights" window instead.

Minimum flights: you need at least 3 flights with applicable data in a category before that category gets a score. Below that, you'll see "Warming up (n/3)" instead of a number.

The Asterisk

If you see your composite score with an asterisk like 8.4*, it means your score is based on fewer than 5 categories. The most common reason: you've been free-flying without bookings, so OTP and Eco can't be scored.

To unlock all 5 categories: create a booking for each flight, set your target pushback time on the briefing page, and generate a SimBrief OFP before launching ACARS.

Streaks 🔥

Every flight where you score Gold (≥9) in a category extends your streak in that category. Break a streak by scoring below Gold — N/A categories don't break it. The biggest prize is a Perfect Flight streak: a chain of flights where ALL FIVE categories scored Gold on the same flight.

Bayesian Shrinkage (the math behind the scores)

If you've ever wondered why your score doesn't immediately jump to 10/10 after a great flight, here's why:

Your raw score is gently pulled toward the average pilot at your airline, with the strength of the pull depending on how many flights you've flown. New pilots get more "smoothing" so a single great or bad flight doesn't dominate. After 20+ flights, your score is essentially your raw average.

This makes the system fair across pilots with different flight counts — you can't game it with one perfect flight, but consistency over time always wins.

Privacy

Your performance ratings respect two privacy controls:

  1. Airline-wide visibility — your operator can disable public visibility for the entire airline
  2. Personal opt-out — go to Settings → Privacy → Performance Ratings to hide just your ratings without hiding your whole profile

You always see your own ratings on /profile, and airline staff can always see ratings for coaching purposes regardless of opt-out.

Where to See Your Rating
